Dealing with the loss of a loved one or director/business partner is an incredibly difficult time and the financial implications can often add to the stress. Our team is here to support you to manage the deceased’s accounts and finalise any financial matters with compassion and respect. We can guide you through the necessary steps and options available, helping to simplify the process as much as possible.
Personal accounts
For Allica Bank to fulfil its obligations and duty of care to our customers, we can only take instructions from an individual authorised to act on behalf of the deceased’s estate.
When somebody dies, you must register the death and inform the government. To learn more about this, please see What to do when someone dies: step by step - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)
Business accounts
For business accounts, when Allica is notified that one of our customers is deceased, our ultimate objective is that the company’s representative (solicitor) or other director/partner will continue to receive the services they are rightfully entitled to without disruption. To fulfil our confidentiality obligations to a business, Allica can only accept notification about a deceased company director or business partner from an individual authorised to act on behalf of the deceased's company.
Businesses must inform Companies House about any changes to your company: Tell Companies House about changes to your limited company - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)
Informing Allica Bank of the bereavement
Please inform Allica Bank of the bereavement when you are ready. You can do this by contacting our customer service team directly. They will guide you through the initial steps and provide any necessary assistance.
How can I contact you?
You can do that here.
What will I need to provide?
If you are not already listed on the account, then we will need you to provide a few details to make sure we find the right one. To make this process as straightforward as possible, please have the following details ready:
- Full name.
- Date of birth.
- Email address linked to the Allica account.
- Account details (if known).
You will also need to provide certified copies of the following:
- Death certificate or interim certificate.
- Grant of probate and will, or letter of administration.
- Proof of identity from the executor of the estate.
- Bank statement for the account. This must be dated within the last three months, letterheaded with the bank's logo or official letterhead, and clearly show full name, account details, and current address.
- Bank statement for the account to which we will release the funds. This must be dated within the last three months, letterheaded with the bank's logo or official letterhead, and clearly show full name, account details, and current address.
- If a representative is being used, we’ll need the executor(s) or solicitor’s name, confirmation of authority, address, and contact details (telephone number & email address).
Allica Bank will require a grant of probate from authorised individuals if the deceased customer’s account balance exceeds £25,000 and there is a will in place.
If a solicitor has been instructed to act on behalf of the executor, the documents do not need to be certified. The solicitor’s submission of them is sufficient proof that the documents are valid.
Next steps and timelines
After receiving the necessary documents, our team will review and process the information. We aim to handle all requests efficiently, and will contact you to explain the next steps. If any additional information is required, we will let you know as soon as possible.
